Capt Steve – I wanted to thank you for this site … my youngest son is currently at Sea Base with his Troop (Troop 52 from Valparaiso/Niceville, FL) … I’ve passed the website to the other parents and scoutmaster so that we can keep up with the happenings at Sea Base. I love your stories and insight into what happens at SB. His call home last night was great! He is having a wonderful time … can’t wait to see all his pictures!!
Just wanted to thank you for this resource.

IMO they will miss u on some level , but since the people u work for only have a vague idea of how much you do it will be like the old joke of ” doing a good job around here is like peeing your pants in a dark suit, give u a warm feeling but no one notices” as in the case of Rich, if they had known what he really made happen, they would have never let him leave. since they still do not, it does not matter. hang in there!!!! P.S. this is probably not a post comment ha ha

Hi Dave! I hope all is well with you and the crew! I have to say I really appreciate the adult leaders like you that put the time and effort in before because it makes everything go so much better. The crew sets the tone for the week and if it starts out bumpy its not fun for any one!

I have lead 2 trips to FSB in my days as a Scouter and I agree with Dave 100%. When I read the original blog post about anxiety on A Day, I was surprised, frankly. FSB is highly organized and the staff in my opinion does a great job. I actually couldn’t even envision a chaotic arrival. Maybe our Troop just has exceptional kids (kidding). In 2 trips we had only one serious issue which was handled timely and effectively and I suspect the situation will never reoccur.

The secret to a successful FSB Adventure is,indeed, plan ahead and read the fine print. The answers are all there. You just have to look for them. It’s a great program for your child and the Sea Base staff has always been great. I count some of them as friends, still, years after actually sailing with them.

I have been reading your blog this year since January!It helps me feel like Seabase is not
20 hours away, and when Nick is sailing a week at a time, your blog really helps!I know
I wrote before that you are appreciated (and the rest of the employees and staff) but felt

Hi Tim. A big part of why I started this blog a few years ago was to try to inform participants and address issues in a timely manner. I have been admonished from time to time for “sharing”. You are welcome. Despite being totally ignored by GoPro, we are experimenting with the cameras this year. This won’t help your situation, but in the not too distant future we may be able to shoot video on the boats for Scouts to bring home. SW
