The FSB Advisory Committee met yesterday at the Florida Sea Base. They were divided into four teams; program, marketing, finance and facilities. I was in the meeting with the program group (of course). The full committee comes together later today for a full report. The bottom line is the Florida Sea Base is doing very well. 2010 is going to be an off year in attendance. But we are not alone. Philmont and Northern Tier (the other two National High Adventure Bases) are having off years as well. And other summer camp groups like Outward Bound, YMCA, etc. are reportedly having a worse 2010 than the BSA facilities. Optimism is high for 2011 and beyond. The quality of program is not an issue and will be even better in 2010. We will increase the number of crews served in the Florida Fishing Adventure, Scuba Liveaboard, and Coral Reef Sailing Adventures in 2011. It looks like we might not have an Order of the Arrow Oceans Adventure program in 2010 but we expect them back with a totally new program in 2011. A lot of improvements are being made across the board. There are still limited openings for almost all of our programs in 2010 if you would like to join us. Visit www.bsaseabase.org for available dates.

i’d love to hear what went on in the facilities meeting. that’s where we really fall short.
