About

Welcome aboard www.FloridaSeaBaseNews.com. This site is privately owned and operated by Captain Steve Willis and is not an official site of the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base nor the Boy Scouts of America. However, the information contained herein is primarily about the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base (which IS owned by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America) and its professional and seasonal staff and captains.

Any questions or issued raised by my comments on this site should be directed to my attention through the comments button on each post, or to my email address, Steve.Willis@scouting.org or my cell phone 305-393-7373.  One member of the Florida Sea Base staff has complained about my post adding to their workload.  So please contact me directly.  If I am not the best point of contact for your question, I will direct you to the correct person.  Unlike many other sites, I approve all the non-spam, Scout appropriate comments that I receive on my blog.  If you want to share something you didn’t like I will not censor your comments and I will respond to those on an individual basis and/or through the blog.

The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base has three facilities or campuses; the Florida Sea Base, the Brinton Environmental Center, and our Bahamas Base.  I started working at the Florida Sea Base as a seasonal employee in May, 2000.  I was hired as a Scuba Instructor and promoted to Dive Boat Captain in August 2001.  I became a full-time employee of the Boy Scouts of America in November 2002 when I was hired as the Program Director at the Florida Sea Base.  Prior to working at the Florida Sea Base, I was a law enforcement officer in Texas for 26 years.  I am an Eagle Scout (Longhorn Council, 1968), Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, PADI Course Director, graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University (Nacogdoches, Texas) and hold a Master’s License from the  U.S. Coast Guard to operate power and sail vessels of not more than 100 tons.

I bear all expense for this site without financial assistance from the Florida Sea Base or the Boy Scouts of America.  The intent of this site is to give FSB staff members, captains, participants and friends a place to find current information about what’s happening at the base and information about current and former staff members and captains. When I say “current” I mean as current as time and schedules allow and whether there is any major news to share. I hope you will check in from time to time to see what’s new. Participants, staff and captains will find pertinent information that is not posted on the official Florida Sea Base website.
