A Coral Reef Sailing crew arrived at the Florida Sea Base this afternoon.  With more staff than participants, they were able to work through the arrival day routine and actually depart the dock.  They are aboard the S/V Ciao Bella with Capt. Mike Lucivero.  The rest of the week will be slow ,but the crews start arriving pretty steadily on 13 March.  Our first Scuba Adventure crew of the spring arrives on 14 March.

The weather is great this evening.  The stars are unbelievable.  The temperature is going to bottom out at about 55 – 57 but it won’t too bad since the wind has laid down.  We may hit 80 degrees on Thursday or Friday.  Maybe spring is finally here.  We can only hope.

This morning started out windy, cool and with some light rain.  At 1230 it is a glorious day; still a little cool but clear skies with a lot of warm sunshine and just enough breeze to make the Hunter’s fly!  The first four Coral Reef Sailing crews arrived back at base this morning for their “fun day” at base.  They all appear to be having a BLAST!!!  They are rotating through today’s activities which include small boat sailing on our Hunter 170s, ocean kayaking, playing volleyball and tubing.  I watched part of a volleyball game and then watched some of the small boat sailing from the T-dock.  I will probably get to catch some of the other two activities after lunch.

Capt. Dennis and his wife Ellen are in Tennessee watching the snow fall and trying to stay warm.  Milly McCoy, Scuba Instructor.  is on her way to Cancun to dive the cenotes.  Capt. Rich is out on the water giving Capt. Alex (Bergstedt) guidance on how to operate the tubing boat, and the rest of the program staff are with their crews participating in whichever activity the crew is engaged in.  There are no conference groups on base today.  Chrystene Matthews, Food Service & Conference Director, is taking a deserved week off.  Seasonal staff continue to trickle in.

I can’t recall if i told you,  Gwen Douglass resigned a week or so ago as our Ship’s Store manager.  Maria Donovan is now in charge of the Ship’s Store.  Feel free to visit the Ship’s Store on-line and Maria will fill your order with all due haste.

I was occupied with administrative issues most of the day and didn’t get out on the boat.  I was able to take several photos today.  I’m going to post seven of the photos and let them and their captions kind of speak for the day.  I forgot to take a picture of the crews playing volleyball.  I’ll try to remember tomorrow.  Please click READ MORE to see the photos.

I made it to Gainesville, Florida last night.  I have just over eight (8) hours of drive time between me and the Base.  I will make two stops for gas and one for groceries so I hope to be at the Base about dinner time.  I did have one phone call from an adult leader today that’s worth presenting.  As we have discussed previously, the former “Key West Day” of the Coral Reef Sailing Adventure has been replaced with a “Fun Day” at Sea Base.  The day is spent learning small boat sailing, tubing, playing volleyball and other on-base activities.  So the question was, can an adult leader take his/her crew off base for other activities on the “Fun Day”.  PLEASE READ MORE…
